Band Of The Week: Ovid's Withering

It's a gutsy move to have your Debut LP be longer than most bands first two albums combined. It's tough for many bands to keep things interesting when tackling an album that's over 70 minutes long, without getting really repetitive, but Ovid's Withering use that time to the fullest and blend multiple genres into a delicious musical stew.

If we were to simplify Ovid's Withering down to one sole genre, it'd likely be Deathcore, but that does a disservice to the multitude of other genre's that had clear influence on their sound. Primarily Black Metal, Symphonic Death Metal, and Progressive Death Metal. The balck metal influence comes most clearly in the higher vocals, and it's use works incredibly well with the bands bleak sound.

Check out the video for 'Oedipus Complex':

Ovid's Withering has made more than a strong initial outing for themselves. They've crafted one of the best and more creative deathcore albums of 2013 and one of the best in recent memory. These guys have a bright future ahead of them and I look forward to hearing more of their musical endeavors.
