Top EP's Of 2013

Well another year is over, and tons and tons of new music got released. I'm gonna be totally honest and say that I didn't get to listen to nearly as many EPs this year as I should have but that partially because there were too many great LPs coming out for me to keep focus. That's not to discredit these EPs though, they are fantastic and well worth your time.

So without further ado, here's the list:

5. Ingested – Revered By No One, Feared By All

Ingested don’t get the fame they deserve really. The band can make some great technical death metal with plenty to love. Revered By No One, Feared By All contains a few great songs, and the album is a great short listen and well worth your time.

4. Vildjharta – Thousands Of Evils

Vildjharta’s debut album Masstaden made a rather huge splash in the world of Djent, becoming one of the most popular Djent releases ever and creating a sound that many bands would try to incorporate into their own works. The bands release this year Thousands Of Evils, wasn’t met with nearly as much rave reviews, as it felt a bit too similar to material on Masstaden, and felt like a safe play by the band, but the music is still strong and should be very enjoyable for fans of their debut album.

3. Oh, Sleeper – The Titan

Oh, Sleeper recently finished their contract with Solid State Records, and for creative reasons decided to give self-publishing a go. One Kickstarter project later we got an EP and a big tour (and should get a second EP sometime soon hopefully). Titan is a pretty strong set of five songs, although it doesn’t meet the expectations set by the incredibly good Children Of Fire, but Titan is great throughout and finishes incredibly strong.

2. Uneven Structure – 8

It might be cheating to have this album on here as this is technically an album from 2009, but Uneven Structure went and entirely re-recorded the album and boy did that do wonders. 8 is an incredible EP, packed to the brim with fantastically dark atmosphere and super heavy riffs. If you haven’t heard this album you need to get on it.

1. Harm’s Way – Blinded

Harm’s Way’s Isolation was an awesome debut Hardcore album establishing the bands dark hardcore sound with a good helping of doom metal inspiration. Blinded adds a thick layer of atmosphere to their sound and creates some of the best hardcore music I’ve ever heard. Add in some cool sound bites from There Will Be Blood and you’ve got one of the most memorable albums this year.

That about wraps it up! Harm's Way, Vildhjarta and Uneven Structure had some of the best artwork I've seen in a while too.

Look for my Top 15 albums list soon!
